Ano Nuevo

Jason & I, along with his dad, decided to go to Ano Nuevo State Reserve for their annual elephant seal tours... It was quite cool! The peak time, actually, when there are most elephant seals, is early February, but we got to see a lot of male elephant seals lounging around!

See the seal, hidden among the brush & sand?

These are all actually mostly males... The females don't start arriving till a bit later to birth, raise & wean their pups, then mate and go back to sea...

They're quite huge, up close... I'm told they can weigh up to 1,500 pounds...
